Essex Youth String Orchestras

28 January 2014

The Essex Youth String Orchestras (EYSOs) offer young people the chance to experience the fun and excitement of music for strings, and provide a training ground for the Essex Young People’s Orchestra and Essex Youth Orchestra .

There is a group for students of all ages, and from beginner to advanced standard.

The groups all meet once a month on a Sunday, and entry is by application. To apply for a place, please fill out and return the Ensembles Application form , or register for the next Strings Workshop.

For players of approximately grade one to four standard, the Young Essex Strings (YES) provides an introduction, offering the chance to play together with others tackling a wide range of repertoire from Christmas carols to ‘jazzy’ modern music.

As they gain experience, students can join the Essex Youth String Orchestra (EYSO), which plays professional string orchestra repertoire from Bach to much later romantic music such as Dvorak.

Some of the advanced players are invited to stay on in the afternoon and play with one of the Essex Youth String Quartets (EYSQs). The EYSQs receive expert tuition from professional quartet coaches, working on the skills needed to play proper chamber music.

The EYSOs form the core of the string workshop days , where they perform, and also have their own local concerts during the year. These are open to the public, and allow you to show off what you have learnt! For details, see the concerts page .
