Essex Beginner Choir (EBC) for 7 to 9 year olds
The Essex Beginner Choir (EBC) builds on the foundations established with the
Essex Fun Singers. Beginner Choir sessions are still fun and foster a positive attitude to singing with others whilst also starting to prepare singers for the musical demands of singing with the
Essex Training Choir.
The EBC regularly sings pieces in parts, most of which are accompanied on the piano but some are performed unaccompanied. Singers do not need to be able to read music as many pieces are taught aurally rather than from notation. However, the more complex nature of some of the songs makes it very demanding for young people to learn if they are not fluent readers of the written word for their age group.
The EBC meets for a one day workshop on the Friday during the October and February half terms. This is followed by a joint concert with the
Essex Training Choir and the
Essex Young Singers on the last Saturday of half term.
On the Thursday of the May half term, the EBC has a workshop and showcase for parents and siblings.
Janette Ruocco and Ruth Dorrington are the conductors of the EBC and Barbara Cutter is the accompanist.
