Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra

The Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra is the newest orchestra to be formed. Each year, the orchestra meets for two non-residential courses, each followed by a concert. The orchestra is open to woodwind, brass, percussion and string bass players who are grade 5 and above.

 

Musical Director 

Charles Hine is the Musical Director of the Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra. Charles studied clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music where he received numerous awards including the Geoffrey Hawkes Prize for Clarinet, the Lady Holland Prize for Composition and the Recital Diploma.
 
During his studies, Charles won the Young Musician award for South East England and has since been honoured with an ARAM. Charles is a founder member of the Vega Wind Quintet, one of the country's leading chamber ensembles and the first Wind Quintet to be invited to appear at the Proms.
 
Charles is currently Head of Woodwind and Head of Performance Studies at the Colchester Institute Centre of Music and he also conducts the Wind Orchestra and Clarinet Choir at the Royal College of Music, Junior Department.
