Essex Dance Theatre provides a range of opportunities for people across the county who might not normally consider attending a traditional dance school or class. Based in Chelmsford, but operating across the county, the theatre has an open-door policy and works with people regardless of age, gender or experience, with young people with special needs taking part within the timetable of regular classes wherever possible.   

The theatre's staff introduce, develop and sustain an interest in dance as a performing art and physical form of recreation. Whether you want to study dance as a GCSE or A-Level, pursue a desire to perform on stage within the specialist Performing Groups or take part in recreational activities and classes, the Essex Dance Theatre delivers a range of services to the community with qualified staff on hand to help you reach your potential.

The theatre, an accredited ISTD centre, also offers an ISTD Level 3 Diploma in Dance Instruction and responds to requests from schools and local groups to link with the National Curriculum and community projects. 

Its main base provides office accommodation and three dance studios with sprung floors and mirrors, which are also available to hire.
