Public art helps create more enjoyable places for us to live and work and improves the image of the county.
Essex County Council has been commissioning public art for many years. We were the first county council to develop a public art policy in the late 1980s. The
Essex Public Art Guide sets out the council's policy for public art.
Many
district and borough councils have their own policies for public art and we work with them to encourage the private sector, social housing providers, institutions and other public sector developers to also play a part in developing public art in Essex.
Our
Public Art team promotes the inclusion of public art in all public and private building projects and environmental schemes throughout the county, supported through the
Essex Design Initiative.
