If you are an employer recruiting workers from overseas, and wish to check their overseas criminal record, a CRB check will not provide a complete picture of any criminal record that may or may not exist. This is because the Criminal Records Bureau cannot access criminal records held outside the United Kingdom. However, a small number of foreign criminal records are held on the Police National Computer and would show up on a disclosure check.
In order to get a fuller picture of a foreign national’s background, additional checks may be required. Directgov provides information on how to gain information on candidates from a number of countries.
