Business rates are set and collected by the district and borough councils of Essex. For information on how to pay, or to appeal against your current rate, contact your local district or borough council.
Unitary Authorities
Business rates are managed by the national government on behalf of local authorities, and the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) is the government agency responsible for setting business rates and administering the collection and distribution of monies received. Information about how business rates are calculated can be obtained from either the VOA or from the Business Link website.
The VOA’s business rates information pages provides a comprehensive range of information relating to current levels, how to check the rateable value of your premises, rate relief and all associated information.
