Single Equality Scheme
It is no longer a requirement for schools to develop and publish equality policies and schemes but several schools have found it useful to use a scheme to clarify aims, actions, and roles and responsibilities in relation to equality issues and objectives set for school.
Equality Act 2010
Insted Consultancy has equality and diversity advice and information for school leaders, staff, governing bodies and local authorities.
EMTAS
From January 2010, EMAS and TES combined to form the Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS).
EMTAS provides a strategic lead on:
- the educational achievement of all minority ethnic children including Traveller pupils, asylum seeking/refugee pupils and pupils with English as an additional language (EAL) in schools and other educational settings in Essex;
- race equality in all schools;
- tackling racism and promoting intercultural awareness through the curriculum and other activities;
- responding appropriately and effectively to racist incidents;
- supporting and developing home school and community links.
Both centres can provide resources and guidance materials to schools to support Traveller pupils and BME pupils including language resource materials for pupils with English as an additional language.
