Everyone spends time in the formal education system, and it's the actions of teachers and others who work in that system that influence some of the biggest decisions we'll ever make.
The Essex Teaching Awards help us give these individuals the recognition they deserve, allowing us to identify, celebrate and share best practice.
Nominations are now closed for this year's awards, which took place in February 2017. Read about the winners and see pictures of the award ceremony.
Nominations were accepted from anyone in respect to individuals working or volunteering within maintained schools and academies in the Essex local authority area.
There was also a special ‘student choice’ award to recognise nominations made by past and present students.
The categories for this year’s awards were:
- New teacher of the year
- Teaching assistant of the year
- Primary teacher of the year
- Secondary teacher of the year
- Special school teacher of the year
- Primary headteacher of the year
- Secondary headteacher of the year
- Governing body of the year
- School team of the year
- Lifetime achievement
- Student choice
- School website of the year
The Teaching Awards are in their fourth year. Over the past three years the awards have acknowledged outstanding teachers and headteachers, teaching assistants, governing bodies and school teams who work in Essex. The 2016 Awards took place on 11 February 2016. Watch a video from last year's event.
