Chairs mailing
At the beginning of each term, Governor Services writes to all Essex chairs with items of current or local interest, each signposting to further information. Copies are sent direct to chairs at their home or school address.
Introduction to being a chair of governors
This two-hour session gives a useful overview of the roles and responsibilities of the chair of governors. The tutor is an experienced chair who will be able to answer your questions and help you decide if you are ready (and willing) to take on this challenging, but fascinating role.

Taking the chair
A five module, practical and problem solving programme which explores and develops the skills needed to lead effectively and manage the work of the school governing body. You must attend all five modules at the same centre. You can also access the programme online through
Governors e-Learning (GEL). Information can be found on the

Chairs' conference
The annual all day conference is a chance for chairs, vice chairs and committee chairs to explore their roles and improve knowledge, understanding and skills. The date for the 2012 conference will be published in next year's training brochure.
