Training for clerks
Clerks are welcome to attend any of the training in the
training brochure for governors and clerks.
If you are a clerk to a subscribing school or are a member of the Essex Clerking Agency attendance is free.
Induction training
Induction is essential for all new clerks, as well as those who would like to develop their skills as a clerk. The training can be taken over four evenings or two days and focuses on:
- developing an understanding of the legal framework in which governing bodies work
- the cycle of meetings and how to prepare the paperwork before and after a meeting.

Clerks' conference
This annual conference gives clerks a chance to explore their professional role and broaden their knowledge, understanding and skills, and network with other clerks. The 2012 Clerks' Conference is taking place on 27 June at Weston Homes Community Stadium, Colchester.
Clerks' briefing sessions
Two hour termly briefings just for clerks are jointly hosted by Governor Services and the Essex Clerks' Association. Don't miss the opportunity to share good practice and meet and network with other clerks.

The Community of Practice is an online site for Essex school governors and clerks. It provides a meeting point for clerks to share experience and offer mutual support.
