Costs
Governors and clerks at schools which subscribe to our Governor and Clerk Professional Learning & Development can attend as many training sessions, courses and conferences as they wish. You can also attend localised Hot Topic sessions and have a governing body development session held at your own school.
In addition to our basic subscription package we also offer an enhanced subscription package. This enables schools to receive additional governing body development sessions at a preferential rate. This choice must be selected when your subscription is bought.
Schools that do not subscribe can pay as they go for governor training.
Training
Make good use of your
training link governor to help the governing body identify training needs. Governor development should be discussed regularly at governing body meetings.
A regular
skills audit can help you to build a team with the range of skills you need. For example, you could think about how well you induct new governors. It’s a good idea to ‘buddy’ new governors to an experienced governor. This helps them to settle in and get quickly up to speed. You should also make it clear that you expect new governors to attend an induction course.
Induction
When you first become a governor it can be difficult to know where to start. The Induction course is essential to help you understand your role and begin to make a positive difference to your governing body. Once you have completed your Induction course there are seven further introductory courses we recommend. Completing these will give you a good understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a governor and the governing body.
In addition, once you have completed Induction and all seven courses, it is possible to gain a Certificate of School Governance Studies. We can celebrate your achievement by publishing your name in Gateways, the termly newsletter for governors.
