Traded Services

We're delivering an ambitious programme of work to become a leading entrepreneurial council. Like so many local authorities around the country, Essex has felt the effect of cuts from central government but by driving innovation and upskilling its teams to be confident business leaders, new revenue streams are being created.

Instead of closing funding gaps by cuts alone, we're equipping staff in selected service areas with the right sales and other commercial skills to operate more competitively and generate new income for the council, which will support services for tax payers.

To achieve this, we've developed a business incubator approach to identify and support those service areas within the council which have potential to become trading businesses.

From legal services to outdoor education, Essex County Council is driving innovation as it strives to become Essex - the entrepreneurial council.
