Buy with Confidence is an approved trader scheme which has been set up to assist residents to find reputable local businesses. The scheme is run by a partnership of local Trading Standards services, including the unitary authorities of Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock. Any business in any sector can make an application to join the scheme.

 

Businesses are audited by Trading Standards to ensure they comply with consumer protection legislation and only once they pass can they display the Buy with Confidence logo and be entered onto the website. Approved businesses are monitored on a regular basis and feedback is invited from their customers. If member companies fall below acceptable standards, they may be expelled from the scheme. The scheme also allows for an arbitration service in instances where the business and the consumers cannot achieve a satisfactory resolution.

 

There are many benefits to joining the scheme including: the use of the Buy with Confidence logo to use on stationery, vehicles and in promotional materials, entry onto the Buy with Confidence website directory and promotional advertising undertaken by Trading Standards.

 

Consumers who are interested in finding an approved trader should visit the Buy With Confidence website, where they can find a particular trader near to them. There is no charge for this service.

 

If you are a business interested in becoming an approved Buy With Confidence trader, you can complete the application process online, or download an application form.

 

For businesses with up to 20 employees, there is an application fee of £250, excluding VAT, to be paid upon application. An additional annual fee of £150 will apply from year two of membership.

 

For businesses with more than 20 employees, the initial fee will be £400, and the annual fee from the second year will be £250.
