Rogue doorstep traders

We encourage anyone who has been targeted by cold callers to call the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06 for advice, guidance and support. Staff are experienced in helping residents, don’t be embarrassed or afraid to get in touch.

Our advice is never to do business with cold callers offering household maintenance and repairsFor more information watch our rogue traders video.

Buying a used car

Organised crime groups are seeking out the most fragile members of our society by “working” from mailing lists which categorise people as being elderly or vulnerable in some way.

Everyone is at risk but those listed as living alone and those that might have previously responded to scam mail are often their preferred targets. Contact is mostly made by letter and telephone calls to try and trick them into parting with cash.

Those who respond can end up having their details put on lists that are potentially sold to other scammers all over the world. This can result in victims being delivered large amounts of scam letters a day and plagued by international phone calls.

There is certainly an element of “brainwashing” by these criminals who are having an easy and assisted passage into their victims’ homes, minds and bank accounts.

Why not become a Friend Against Scams?
