On this page you’ll find the main terms and conditions which apply when enrolling with Adult Community Learning:
- I confirm that I have been resident in the UK/European Economic Area/European Union for the last three years (if not this may affect your fee)
- I confirm that I will keep Adult Community Learning Essex informed of any changes in my personal details e.g. address, especially telephone number, and in particular my status where it affects my entitlement to any fee remission I may have been granted
- I confirm that I will respect the rights of all centre users to be able to work in a cooperative manner and treat everyone with respect regardless of differences in culture, disability, learning difficulties, medical conditions, race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion or social class.
Data protection - how we use your personal information
The personal information you provide is passed to the Chief Executive of Skills Funding and, when needed, the Young People’s Learning Agency for England to meet legal duties under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009, and for the Agency’s
Learning Records Service to create and maintain a unique learner number.
The information you provide may be shared with other partner organisations for purposes relating to education or training. Further information about use of and access to your personal data, and details

Class cancellation
- Courses that do not reach a viable size have to be closed or may be merged with another. It is therefore important you enrol as early as possible to ensure your chosen course will run.
- Once a course has started, additional learners will be welcome if space or the structure of the course allows.
In the event of having to postpone a class, every attempt will be made to inform you. In severe weather conditions, any closures will be broadcast on local radio such as
BBC Essex and
Heart FM.
Waiting lists
- When classes are over-subscribed we may begin a waiting list for the possibility of running additional courses.
- The feasibility of running additional courses is dependent on tutor availability and local accommodation resources.
- Your local centre will keep you informed about waiting lists.
Course refunds
- It is not our policy to refund fees automatically when a change in circumstances prevents or discourages a learner from continuing with a particular class.

Support
We provide
support for people with disabilities, learning difficulties and medical conditions such as hard of hearing, visual impairment, diabetes, wheelchair users. To discuss your learning needs, please contact the centre where you plan to study.
Electrical equipment and computers
Please ensure that you use any electrical equipment in a safe manner and that all equipment has been approved as safe by Health and Safety staff.
Please respect all rules concerning computer use, these are on display in the computer rooms.
Fire safety
If the fire bell rings, please leave the building immediately and meet in the designated assembly area.
- Please report any defective fire-fighting or warning equipment immediately to reception.
- Please ensure fire doors are not wedged open and that their self-closing mechanisms are not tampered with in any way.
Mobile phones
Please switch off mobile phones during lessons, except with prior agreement of the course tutor.
Noise
Please keep noise to a minimum, particularly when signs indicate an exam is taking place.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted inside any of our premises or at entrance or exit points of buildings.
