Student receives City & Guilds Medal of Excellence

Tracey Anderson, a student at Adult Community Learning Basildon has recently received a coveted Medal of Excellence from City & Guilds for her outstanding soft furnishing work.

Tracey had just been awarded the City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Soft Furnishings when she received this additional award due to the high standard of her work. Having left her career in the City to be a full-time mum, Tracey says she became interested in soft furnishings as a way of saving money, originally starting by making some curtains for her home.

She found that she really enjoyed the work and began to create designs for family and friends. Tracey decided that she would like to work towards a career in this area and contacted Adult Community Learning to find out about qualifications.  Achieving Levels 1 and 2 and now Level 3, Tracey is on the way to starting her own business and was thrilled to receive acknowledgement of the excellence of her work by City & Guilds.

ACL learner "highly commended" by City & Guilds

John Holliday who studied with Adult Community Learning Chelmsford has been highly commended by judges from the City & Guilds awarding body for his photography work. The judges commented on his work saying that, "he should be encouraged to pursue this highly specialised work."

John, who already had some photographic experience, undertook the Progression Award in Photography - Level 2 as part of a new challenge and to experiment more in his chosen subject. The course with ACL certainly helped John fulfil his objectives.  Commenting on why people should get involved with adult learning John said, "It is a great way to meet like minded people".
