Admissions

4 January 2012

If you want information on admissions to Essex primary and secondary schools or need help finding a school then you are in the right place.

When applying to schools in Essex, it is important to follow the correct procedures in order to make your application run as smoothly as possible.

I am interested in information on:

Please note: there is no guarantee of a place at your priority admission area school, if you have one. It is still necessary to make an application to the school in order to be considered.

Please note: information about applications

Secondary schools

Year 6 children due to move from primary to secondary school will receive information about how to apply in September. If you have not received this by mid-September, please contact us by phone or email.

Primary schools

If your child was born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008 you will be sent primary school application information in mid-October 2011. If you have not received this information by the end of October please contact us by phone or email.

Admissions assistance

Anyone requiring additional advice, information or guidance relating to school admissions should, in the first instance, contact the School Planning and Admissions team. School Planning and Admissions deal with all applications for school places for Essex resident children.

This is for parents applying for a place for their child starting primary or secondary school for the first time, and for parents who wish to transfer their child from one school to another. If you are unable to locate the information you require on this website, please contact us.

Choice advice

Essex County Council offers an independent choice advice service to help you understand the admissions process and make an informed application for a school place, although it cannot guarantee a place at any particular school.

The Essex Choice Advice Service is a free, impartial and confidential statutory service. If you, or anyone you know, is in need of some additional guidance through the school application and admission process, please contact the Essex Choice Advice Helpline on 01245 437622 (term time only).

Further information

School open days/evenings

Most secondary schools hold open days/evenings where parents can visit the school to help find out more information. Details of these are published in the Secondary Education in Essex 2012/13 booklet or you can contact schools directly to ask when they are.

Some primary schools also hold such events and most will make arrangements for parents to visit by appointment. Please contact schools directly for more information.
