School places for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

9 November 2018

If your child has special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), they can get SEND support from schools. Find out how you can get support if you think your child has SEND.

Year 6 to year 7 transfer

If your child has an education, health and care plan (EHCP), they will be allocated a school place when their EHCP is reviewed in year 6.

If your child is in year 6 and has SEND support or is being assessed for an EHCP, you should still apply through the normal round of admissions.

When your child’s EHCP is finalised, you need to contact the School Admission Team to withdraw your application.

Starting primary school for the first time

If your child is due to start primary school and has an EHCP, they will be allocated a school place by the Statutory Assessment Service.

If your child is being assessed for an EHCP, you should still apply through the normal round of admissions. You need to let the School Admission Team know if your child is being assessed for an EHCP.
