It is anticipated that the development of land at New Hall Farm in Harlow will require two new primary schools to serve its housing.
In April 2015, ESOS held a public consultation to seek to establish the first – an Academy Free School offering up to 420 places, with an Early Years setting offering 52 places on the same site, to cater for children from 2 years-old to statutory school age.
The resulting provision is funded entirely from developer contributions, avoiding any need for Essex County Council to commit its own capital resources to the project. Further, ECC has built flexibility into its agreement with the developer to allow it to expand the new school – Newhall Primary Academy – to 630 places, should that prove the more prudent option to serve the increasing demand coming from the growing development.
In mid-2016, Academy Trust REAch² were appointed to run the school by the Secretary of State for Education, and they have been working closely with ESOS and various other internal and external stakeholders since, to see that it is ready to accept its first cohort of reception-aged children in September 2018.
