An all-through school to serve Greater Beaulieu Park
The significant challenge of meeting the demand for school places within a rapidly growing area of Chelmsford provided the Essex School Organisation Service (ESOS) with an opportunity to deliver an innovative solution, representing a considerable capital investment by Essex County Council.
In October 2017, construction began on Essex’s first all-through school, commissioned to serve Greater Beaulieu Park (on which about 3,700 new dwellings were being built) and its surrounding area. However, the statutory processes to reach that point began some three years earlier (2014), when ESOS conducted an initial public consultation on the Early Years and primary school elements of the proposal, and completed in December 2016 when a final decision to establish a secondary school (in tandem with the elements already agreed) was taken. The new school will add 56 additional pre-school places, 210 additional primary school places and 1,200 secondary school places, to both enhance the educational offer available within the City of Chelmsford and also satisfy parental preference in the Beaulieu area for many years to come.
The sponsor of the new all-through provision will be the Chelmsford Learning Partnership (formerly The Boswells School Trust) who, following a competitive process, received Essex County Council’s recommendation in July 2017, which was confirmed by the Secretary of State for Education shortly afterwards. All is on track to admit the first cohorts of primary-aged pupils in September 2018 and secondary-aged pupils in September 2019.
