Pioneer School, Basildon

13 November 2012

Pioneer School
Pioneer caters for children and young adults with a wide range of profound disabilities.

The project enhanced the existing architecture while adding state-of-the-art facilities. The new building offers a mini-enterprise area which consists of a café, shop and IT drop-in area. A ‘virtual learning environment’ allows staff to create 'real-life environments' for students to safely practice and develop key skills. In addition, there are two art and design rooms, a learning resource centre, a food technology room, a performance space and a music room.

Externally, the landscaping has been designed to enable learning outdoors. There is an external dance area constructed from a sponge-type flooring, a covered performance space, a practical garden, a quiet garden, a creative garden and a kitchen garden.
