The Children and Families Bill received royal assent on 13 March 2014, confirming the obligation for local authorities to publish a local offer by September 2014.
The purpose of the local offer is to improve choice for families by providing information about services available for children and young people aged 0-25 who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.
The local offer also provides a comprehensive resource for professionals to understand the range of services and provision within their area.
The local offer must include provision that supports young people:
- who have education, health and care plans, and who may request an assessment
- who do not have a plan but who need support through universal services
- who require specialist support
Within the local offer Essex County Council is required to include information about:
- Support for children and families
- Health care
- Social care
- Preparing for adulthood
- Travel and transport
Join the local offer
If you or your organisation provides a service to children and/or young people aged 0-25 and you want to join Essex's Local Offer, please email Essex.LocalOffer@essex.gov.uk to request a consent form.
Local offer feedback
In May 2013 we held five sessions with parents to discuss the local offer. We would like to thank everyone who attended for their help and for the 2,500 comments and suggestions we received.
