Join the Where does water go? project

We’re looking for communities at risk of surface water flooding to take part in a project to identify critical watercourses (such as ditches and culverts) in their area.

The Where does water go? project aims to educate the community and landowners about their riparian responsibilities.

If your community is selected we will provide you with a survey pack and an afternoon of training. The project runs from September to June, when watercourses are more visible.

During a trial period of the project one parish educated their community about a nearby watercourse and reported flooding issues to a several agencies. They also set up a flood action group, which organised a volunteer ditch clearance event with Essex Fire and Rescue that helped vulnerable adults.

The project has limited availability and priority will be given to parishes. If you feel the project would benefit your community, please email to be considered for the shortlist next year.
