Essex County Council Minerals and Waste Planning officers carry out regular site monitoring visits. The visits ensure that mineral and waste sites are complying with the terms of their planning permission as laid out in the conditions of the permission. Records of site monitoring visits are arranged by the relevant district for ease of access.
The frequency of monitoring visits is determined by the complexity of the operations on different sites. Sites will be visited up to six times per year, and all sites are monitored at least once a year to ensure that all the conditions of the planning permission are met and the site is completed and fully restored. In situations where there are issues of non-compliance with the planning permission, the number of site monitoring visits may be increased to ensure compliance.
If members of the public are concerned that a site is not meeting the conditions of planning permission, they can complete an enforcement notice complaints form and return it to the Minerals and Waste Planning team. Once we have received the complaint an officer will investigate the matter.
Essex County Council also runs an Environmental Awards Scheme to acknowledge operators who run their sites to a high environmental standard, with consideration towards the local population.
