There are a number of ways to participate in the Waste Development Document Issues and Options Paper Preferred Approach Consultation.

View the consultation papers

In the first instance, you should read the Issues and Options Paper and the associated papers. You can do this in a number of ways:

  • View the documents on line at http://consult.essexcc.gov.uk
  • Download the documents from the Essex County Council website
  • Phone or email the planning team for a free copy of the summary or a free CD containing all the papers associated with the consultation
  • View the documents at one of these locations

Submit your opinions

Please consider the Issues and Options questions asked in the paper and submit your views to us before the 19 January 2012 in the following ways:

May we recommend that you wait to make representations until after reviewing the consultation documentation and attending any drop-in sessions. In submitting your responses, please respond to the questions identified in the question boxes found within the WDD Preferred Approach document and/or Appendix E.  When we consider your responses, regard will be paid to what planning considerations have been raised (for example National policy, landscape, traffic issues, historic environment, amenity and pollution etc) rather than simply to the total number of representations received on a site.

The Council welcomes petitions and recognises they are one way in which people can let us know of their concerns.  All petitions should comply with ECC’s petitions policy, including that for e-petitions if appropriate.
If you are considering raising a petition or e-petition about a planning policy document you may find it helpful, before starting, to seek additional information by contacting us  by email at mineralsandwastepolicy@essex.gov.uk or phoning the Planning Helpline on 01245 435555. If possible, please quote the document title and consultation question numbers in your response, and  please refer to these in the text of your e-petition if you decide to raise one.

Contingency Arrangements

Please note that if a drop-in session or workshop has to be cancelled because of circumstances beyond our control such as heavy snow or a flu epidemic, we should do our best to replace it with another date within the consultation period.

However, we cannot guarantee that this would always be possible, particularly if the problem continued for any length of time.

Drop-in sessions and workshops are not a statutory part of the consultation process, but additional methods of engagement carried out where and when appropriate.  The statutory requirement is only to make the documents available to view on our website and at specified locations such as district and borough council offices and at County Hall, and these opportunities are available throughout the consultation period, whatever the weather!

If a session has to be cancelled for the above reasons, we should publicize the fact by:

  • Informing the local parish or town clerk

  • Contacting the BBC Essex Snowline if appropriate.
