Sub-regional growth areas

The Spatial Planning Team is responsible for working with a range of partners to influence policy for the specific areas listed below, known as sub-regional growth areas.

Thames Gateway South Essex

This area, including the district authorities of Basildon, Castle Point and Rochford, forms part of the wider Thames Gateway, and is the focus for a great deal of housing and business development by 2021.

Haven Gateway

The coastal ports and surrounding area stretching from Mersea Island in Essex to Felixstowe in Suffolk, and including the towns of Colchester, Clacton, Harwich, Manningtree and Ipswich.

London-Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough Corridor

An area stretching north from London, including the Essex districts of Epping Forest, Harlow, and Uttlesford, recognised as an area with substantial growth pressure in terms of both business and housing.

Working in partnership with other organisations, Essex County Council seeks to manage growth in these areas in a sustainable way that minimises impact to the existing residents and surrounding environment.
