The scheme to build a footbridge over the railway line near Braintree Freeport station will create a link between the residential areas of the new Heathlands development and Braintree Freeport shopping and leisure facilities. The need for a footbridge was identified and planned for as part of the Heathlands development and identified in Braintree District Council’s Local Plan as part of the proposals for the district. By providing a direct link between Heathlands and Freeport, the bridge will remove the need to travel between the two areas by car, assisting in the promotion of sustainable transport and reducing private car use in the area.
Work on the scheme will begin in January 2012 and it is anticipated that the scheme will be completed in August 2012. Further information can be obtained by viewing the
Braintree Freeport Footbridge Exhibition Boards.
