Epping Forest Transport Strategy

6 January 2012

Essex County Council, the City of London and the London Boroughs of Redbridge and Waltham Forest are working in partnership to improve the transport network in and around Epping Forest.

The Transport Strategy proposals are still available to view.

Progress on the strategy is being made in the following areas:

Cattle grids

The Public Local Inquiry into the four proposed cattle grids and by-pass areas was held in November 2011.  We are expecting the decision of the Secretary of State in the next couple of months.

Speed limits and road closures

The speed limit changes published last year will be implemented in Spring 2012 as will the prohibition of motor vehicles from Lodge Road and Queen’s Green. The proposed prohibition of motor vehicles on Fairmead Road is currently being advertised, with responses to be sent in by 3rd February 2012.  You can view the documents online at www.engageessex.org.uk - under Epping Forest Transport Strategy Fairmead Road.

Get on the bus to the heart of Epping Forest

To encourage more visitors to leave their cars at home and to make the Forest more accessible to non-car users, a new fully accessible shuttle bus service to the heart of the Forest on Sundays and Bank Holidays ran throughout the summer last year.   We are currently seeking ways of being able to operate this very well-received bus service in 2012.
