Benefits of fostering

There are many benefits of fostering for Essex County Council:

  • We offer a fee paid scheme with three levels of fees – standard, intermediate and advanced based on the applicant’s competence and experience of caring for or working with children and young people. Fees range from £28 per week on the standard scheme to £375 for a carer on the advanced scheme with two or more placements.
  • Foster carers are eligible for a generous weekly allowance to cover the costs of caring for a child. Current allowances are:
      • ages 0-4, £131.53 per week
      • ages 5-10, £149.80 per week
      • ages 11-15, £186.48 per week
      • ages 16+, £226.80 per week
  • There is full training and ongoing career progression
  • You will have the support of a supervising social worker and an out of office telephone line for access to support and advice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Networking and support groups organised across Essex to meet other foster carers
  • And, the most important benefit of all - the chance to make a genuine difference to the life of a child.

In addition, HM Revenue and Customs operates a foster care relief scheme.
