As a working carer, you are likely to need support from your employer at some point. The Work and Families Act 2006 gives carers who meet the eligibility criteria the right to request flexible working and your employer has to take this request seriously.
Your employer might be able to offer:
- flexible starting and finishing times
- compressed working hours, for example completing five days work in four days
- job sharing or part-time working
- homeworking.
An employer can refuse a request but they must have good reason for doing so. You have a right to appeal.
