Throughout the year, our libraries hold many events and activities for children and families. These include the annual Summer Reading Challenge, inspiring children and young people to read for pleasure during the holidays.

You can find out more about events at your local library, by joining our e-newsletter, or following us on Twitter or Facebook.

Special needs

We have a range of resources for children with specific needs or a disability. For visually-impaired children we have books in Braille, large print and audio books. For those with hearing impairments, we offer a range of British Sign Language (BSL) learning materials.

Resources for parents and carers

All libraries have collections of books to support parents and carers dealing with those challenging issues associated with bringing up children.

The Essex Parents website also provides useful resources for parents and carers
