Class visits

Libraries offer a wide range of class visit workshops linked to subject and curriculum areas that are designed to meet National Curriculum objectives. We can also create class visits to suit the teacher’s specific needs.

The workshops support class topics and project work and help children practise key skills in speaking, listening, information, research and evaluating texts.  Each class visit lasts approximately one hour.   If children bring their library tickets they can also borrow books during the visit.

There are a number of class visits available covering a wide range of topics.  We also offer a class visit workshop that teachers can print off and deliver themselves when they bring their class to the library.

If you are planning a visit please also download our Welcome Pack  which contains details of what is involved in a class visit to the library, teacher’s notes and pre-visit preparation, notes for accompanying adult helpers and some risk assessment guidelines.

To book a visit, please contact your local library or email: classvisits@essex.gov.uk.
Please also  email us if you are considering using the self delivered workshop –we will send you a copy and help you organise this.

Following the visit teachers might find it useful to download one of a range of follow-up activities that they can use once back in class.

Schools can also arrange regular visits to the library for children to change their library books.

Our class visit packs are also available for sale to other library authorities.  If you are interested in purchasing them please email: classvisits@essex.gov.uk.
