Cancer collections
Macmillan Cancer Support, Primary Care Trusts and local hospices have worked with Essex Libraries to provide specially selected books and booklets. These cover most of the types of cancer, treatments and outcomes and offer support and explanations to those affected by the condition.

- Surgery Door offers a wide range of health information and includes searchable databases of practitioners offering private medical care.
- Patient UK offers a wide range of information including a large number of leaflets on specific conditions that users can print off. There's also information about over 1800 support groups, prescription and over-the-counter medicines, health benefits and much more.
- Best Health (from the British Medical Journal) offers information in plain English about the causes, symptoms and treatment options for most conditions. It also has details of the success rates for different treatments. This is a subscription site - you can pay to view a single report or take out a 30 day subscription to the full site if you need to see more.
