Motorists are reminded that road works to improve the Nevendon roundabout will continue until winter and so they should plan their journeys accordingly.
The scheme has been designed to improve traffic capacity on the junction between Basildon and Wickford. The number of lanes will be increased from two to three, traffic signals will be upgraded and a new left turn lane built for vehicles travelling east from the A127 onto the A132 Nevendon road northbound to Wickford.
In order to support the works taking place, lane restrictions are necessary on the roundabout and approach lanes. Christopher Martin Road has been temporarily closed to through traffic with access to businesses via Paycocke Road or Cranes Farm Road.
Where possible road users are advised to seek alternative routes and allow additional time for their journey. Any overnight road closures will be advertised on local signage in advance.
Cllr Rodney Bass, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: "We must warn that motorists will experience delays during the construction period of what is a difficult scheme at a busy junction but these improvements are necessary to support the continuing economic and housing growth in the area.
“As with all major works, traffic tends to adjust to the situation over time. We will continue to monitor the impact of the works on traffic in the area to see if we can mitigate any problems. Traffic at Nevendon is, however, also affected by issues elsewhere.
“The scheme is anticipated to be completed during winter 2016.”
Further information about the scheme is available on the Essex County Council website, and regular updates will be posted as construction progresses www.essex.gov.uk/majorschemes.
