Construction work to manage journey times on the A127 and improve access to Basildon and Wickford via the A132 is set to start this month.
Improvements to the Nevendon roundabout include increasing the number of lanes from two to three, upgrading traffic signals and adding a new left turn lane for vehicles travelling east from the A127 onto the A132 Nevendon Road northbound to Wickford.
Christopher Martin Road will be closed to vehicles from 25 April and throughout the construction period, from the A132 East Mayne junction in both directions. Access to businesses on Christopher Martin Road will be via Paycocke Road or Cranes Farm Road.
Roundabout lane closures will be required which may cause traffic delays and we would encourage road users to allow extra time to complete their journeys. Any overnight road closures will be advertised on local signage in advance of work taking place.
Cllr Rodney Bass, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure said: “The A127 is a key route for traffic across south Essex and these works are designed to improve traffic flow at the interchange to support both future economic and housing growth and actively manage congestion.”
“Proposals are still being considered to manage congestion on the A132 East Mayne at the Christopher Martin Road junction by introducing a one-way road westbound and vehicle length restriction from the junction. Road users can be assured that we will continue to undertake traffic surveys to consider what impact this proposal might have on the local network.”
The scheme is anticipated to be completed during winter 2016.
Further information about the scheme is available on the Essex County Council website, and regular updates will be posted as construction progresses www.essex.gov.uk/majorschemes
