The next stage of work by CountyRoute to open a third lane along the A130 is set to begin later this week.
Further works will start on the southbound carriageway this Friday and Sunday (10 and 12 November) with an overnight closure of the southbound carriageway from Howe Green Interchange to Rettendon Turnpike.
Traffic will be diverted onto the Old Southend Road and Main Road from 8pm Friday until 6am Saturday and 8pm Sunday to 6am on Monday. Closures will be lifted if work is completed before 6am.
The works will be carried out near Howe Green where the A130 Bypass crosses Sandon Brook.
To protect the work force, narrow lanes and temporary barriers will be installed around the work site, with a 50mph speed limit in place for the foreseeable future.
Cllr Ian Grundy, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “It is good to see work developing on the third lane.
“We have stressed the importance of keeping two lanes open in both directions to help rush-hour traffic during works. It is good to see CountyRoute have planned the works to accommodate this.
“I’m sure many may feel the third lane is overdue, but we are keen to make sure when work is completed we will have a long-lasting and reliable road which drivers can use for years to come.”
Works on the A130 are being completed at no additional cost to the taxpayer thanks to an agreement with CountyRoute, which runs the A130 on behalf of Essex County Council.
