Beat the heat this week

23 August 2016

Hot weather isn’t always part of the Great British Summer, but with temperatures set to soar above 30 degrees celsius in Essex this week, it is more important than ever to stay safe.

Dehydration, heat stroke and heat exhaustion are the biggest risks posed by extreme heat, especially to those who already have breathing or heart problems.

And while we encourage you to check on elderly friends and relatives and to take extra care with babies and young children, these high temperatures can affect all of us.

Staying hydrated by drinking as much water as possible is the best way to beat the heat, but for further advice, see the NHS website.

You can also keep an eye on the latest forecast, including weather warnings for your area, by checking the MetOffice Twitter feed or website.
