Families will have an opportunity to enjoy a fun day beside the seaside thanks to a special Bucket and Spade train running on Wednesday 10 August.
The train, which will take families from Colchester North to Walton-on-the-Naze, is the perfect opportunity for parents to leave the car at home and enjoy a paddle at one of the County’s most beautiful beaches.
The fun starts as soon as the Bucket and Spade special leaves the station at 9:56am with free buckets and spades for all children along with an activity pack that’ll keep them entertained all the way to the coast. Return trains run every hour after that.
Tickets for the Bucket and Spade Event Train, which can only be pre-booked online, include the return journey and cost just £5 for adults and £3 for children, including the free bucket and spade for every child.
Councillor Eddie Johnson, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: “The Bucket and Spade Special is the perfect way for families to enjoy a fun day out. It is a chance to leave the car at home and enjoy some time together on the spectacular Essex Coast.
“Trains are an excellent way to travel to many of the sights and attractions which can be found in Essex and Suffolk, they are a convenient and environmentally friendly way to enjoy days out this summer.”
Paul Oxley, Stakeholder Manager, Abellio Greater Anglia, said: “We are very pleased to be running the Bucket and Spade special this summer following its great success last year. Walton-on-the-Naze is one of the most scenic beaches on the east coast, and we hope as many families as possible enjoy a great day out by train.”
The Bucket and Spade Special is the latest in a series of special event trains run by the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (ESSCRP) to help encourage people to make the most of the trains operating throughout Essex and Suffolk.
