A Park and Ride bus made an unexpected stop outside County Hall today (Thursday) to help spread the word about Catch the Bus Week
The national week, which runs from 3 July to 9 July, is aimed at encouraging people to hop on the bus.
A Vintage bus will be parked up at Leisure World in Colchester this Saturday (1 July) and in Colchester High Street on the 8 July.
Additionally, buses from a number of operators will also be visiting some of the town’s top employers during the week to provide journey planning advice, advise on fares/ ticketing options, and to encourage residents and workers to consider using the bus for local journeys.
Buses will be located at:
- The University of Essex on Monday, 3 July and Wednesday, 5 July
- Colchester Hospital on Tuesday, 4 July and Friday, 7 July
- Middleborough (layby near The Octagon) on Thursday, 6 July
Bus companies will also be offering their own special offers to bus users across Essex to help tempt people out of their cars and help reduce congestion.
Today (Thursday) Cllr Ian Grundy and Cllr Ray Gooding hopped on board a Park and Ride bus to help promote the national week.
Cllr Grundy, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "Catch the Bus Week is a great initiative to help encourage those who may be set on car travel to try something different and more sustainable.
"Our Park and Ride buses in Chelmsford and Colchester are just a small selection of over 500 bus services offering cheap and convenient travel across the county.”
Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for Passenger Transport, added: “Catch the Bus Week is the perfect time to take advantage of special offers from bus companies and try out a new bus service in your area.
“A full bus can take up to 40 cars off the road helping to ease congestion and keep Essex moving.
“Bus travel also allows you to catch up with work, the news or social media while avoiding the stress of finding a parking space.
"A national survey recently showed a large spike in passenger satisfaction for bus users in Essex, so what better time to hop on a bus for the first time?"
