Britain’s servicemen and women will be honoured in a special flag raising ceremony taking place this Monday.
The Chairman of Essex County Council, Cllr John Aldridge, will join Cllr Anne Brown, Cabinet Member for Communities, to raise a specially commissioned flag in celebration of Armed Forces Day. The Day will see flags raised by local authorities across the Country to mark Armed Forces Day (which falls on Saturday 25 June) and will fly for a week as a reminder of events and celebrations taking place around the UK.
The flag raising will take place on the steps of County Hall in Chelmsford at 9.30am.
Cllr Aldridge said: “Marking and showing our support for our Armed Forces is an honour, especially in a year that marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War battles of the Somme and Jutland.
Essex has a long and proud military history, and it is fitting that we continue to celebrate and remember all of those who defend our country.”
