New App opens the door to Your Essex

7 December 2012

Your Essex, a new mobile web app by Essex County Council, has launched, to give Essex residents and visitors to the county access to information and news about key local services, in one touch, wherever they are.

The app will provide people on the go with access to news, information on events and travel, and an A-Z of local public services. It also has a GPS location tracker to help people find their nearest services, including country parks and recycling centres.

The mobile web app responds to the growing number of residents, now around one in six, that use mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets to access information from the Essex County Council website www.essex.gov.uk

As well as offering customers the information most regularly looked at on the ECC website in a mobile friendly way, the new app also aims to be a one stop shop for trusted information about public services in Essex.  It pulls together a more joined up view of the county with Essex police, Braintree, Colchester and Maldon councils currently on board, it has the flexibility for further partners to get on board in the future.

Leader of Essex County Council, Councillor Peter Martin, said: “With one in three adults now using a smart phone¹, we know it is important that we provide our residents with the ability to find the information they are looking for in the simplest possible way.

“The Your Essex app provides people with a doorway to the information they need about public services in Essex. We already have the Police and a number of councils on board with this exciting venture and we will be seeking to continually enhance and develop the information available through the app.”

Going forward the development of the app will include the ability for residents to report book or pay for services using their mobile devices.

The Your Essex mobile web app can be downloaded for free onto your home screen by visiting m.essex.gov.uk from your mobile device.
