New plans revealed for Christopher Martin Road, Nevendon

5 September 2016

Proposals for a one-way route westbound on Christopher Martin Road have been dropped by Essex County Council after carrying out a local traffic survey.

The proposals had been suggested as part of ongoing improvement works to the A127/A132 Nevendon Interchange between Basildon and Wickford.

But CCTV filming and other survey work showed that alternative measures would be more effective, including altering the lane markings and signage on the A132 East Mayne approaching the Nevendon roundabout and providing a yellow box junction.

As a result of this change, there is no need for a formal consultation on the Christopher Martin Road one-way proposal as the road will re-open with a traffic-signal controlled junction following completion of the works.

Cllr Rodney L Bass, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, said: “We have listened to residents and local businesses, as well as conducting our own surveys, and it is clear that this is the best solution for all involved.

“By acting quickly, we have saved the time and expense of a consultation.

“This was a common sense approach which allows us to now focus our attention on completing the improvement works at the A127/A132 Nevendon Interchange.

“We thank drivers and local businesses for their continued patience with the work which is set to improve traffic flow at this busy junction for years to come.”

The work is due to complete in Winter 2016/17. For more information please visit the ‘Major Schemes’ section of the Essex County Council website.
