The Essex County Council Car Park on Rainsford Road, Chelmsford, is to be marketed for redevelopment, it has been announced.
The half-acre site, currently used as a staff carpark for the council and public parking out of office hours is being marketed for sale, with interested parties invited to submit bids.
Cllr David Finch, Leader of Essex County Council, said: “As a landowner it is important that we ensure the best possible return for residents, and the size and proximity to the city centre mean this particular piece of land is ideal for a number of uses.
“This is a prominent site and we look forward to seeing how this can be used to support the ongoing regeneration of Chelmsford. And of course while we recognise the importance of car parking, the council’s investment into the park and ride system provides visitors with an ideal way of travelling into the town efficiently and at low cost.”
“Those interested in the site will have the opportunity to make a bid over the coming weeks, before a final decision is made. Obviously any plans would be subject to gaining the required planning permissions.”
