Work to reconstruct Pond Hall culvert in Manningtree is due to take place from Monday, 3 October, for approximately 16 weeks.
A recent inspection of the culvert, situated at the junction between Bradfield Road and Wix Road, found some serious cracking and considerable distress to its foundations. The top part of both head walls, which are supporting the carriageway and parapets, have collapsed.
The work will require a full road closure with a sign-posted diversion.
It will involve demolition of the existing culvert and reconstruction of a new one at the same location. The new culvert will be slightly wider than the existing one and will provide additional width for verges on both sides of the carriageway which will improve safety for road users.
The diversion will guide drivers along the following roads: Bradfield Road, Harwich Road, A120 Wix By-pass, Clacton Road, Steam Mill Road, Heath Road and Wix Road.
