Please note: An updated list of schools open or closed is now available here.

So far 75 schools have informed ECC they will be closed, 4 will be open and 12 will be partially open. However these figures are not representative of the whole county as this leaves approximately 400 schools which have not made their intentions known to ECC.

Essex County Councillor Stephen Castle, Cabinet Member for Education said: "It is extremely disappointing that so many schools are choosing to close on the day of industrial action.

"Schools have a responsibility to pupils and their parents to provide education and wherever possible I would encourage schools to stay open to fulfil this obligation. If a school is planning on closing then I would ask that they let parents know as soon as possible so they have the time to make alternative childcare arrangements."
