Communities looking to close a road to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a street party have until Monday 14th May to submit their road closure applications.
Applications for road closures in Brentwood, Harlow and Epping Forest should be made directly to Essex County Council by 14th May and an application form can be found at www.essex.gov.uk/streetparties or requested by calling 0845 603 7631. Applications for elsewhere in the county should be made direct to district/borough councils.
Over 3,000 people have already visited www.goodforessex.org/streetparties which contains advice and information to help people plan and promote their parties. In addition, almost 1,000 promotional packs have been distributed across the county to interested organisations, community groups and individuals. The free packs, which include posters, invites, a bunting template and a recipe, are still available and can be requested through the website or by emailing email@example.com.
County Councillor Peter Martin, Leader of Essex County Council said: “The Diamond Jubilee is a momentous occasion and we’ve had a great response already. I have no doubt that there will be celebrations taking place all over the county.
“The number one tip for holding a party is to plan early but I’m pleased that we’re still able to receive applications until 2 weeks before the Jubilee weekend. We’d normally require them at least 4-6 weeks in advance, for instance where we have to publish legal notices, but we’re doing everything we can to make sure that people who want to celebrate the Jubilee can do it as easily as possible.”
