Update: Payroll issues affecting schools employees

25 August 2017

Schools payroll issue: Tuesday 29 August

Thank you for your patience over the weekend. We apologise again for the delay in payment, caused by an internal process failure which is currently under investigation.

All salary payments have now been made.

If schools staff have any further issues, you can contact us on 03457 430 430.

If staff incurred any extra bank charges over the weekend, compensation is available.

Please speak to our payroll team on the number above for further information.

Once again, thank you for your patience over the weekend and we apologise for the error and the inconvenience it has caused.

Due to an internal payroll process failure, many school employees who will have expected to receive their monthly salary payment today, Friday 25 August, will now be paid on Tuesday 29 August. 20,000 out of 35,000 school employees are affected by this issue.

We continue to undertake a full investigation as to how this error has occurred and everyone effected has been written to with a full apology.

A full list of schools affected by this incident, and details of frequently asked questions, can be found here.

As of lunchtime today, Friday 25th August, Essex County Council has dealt with around 1,200 enquiries from schools employees, and has made around 100 emergency hardship payments.

Advice to affected schools employees – what you can do

If you think you will experience financial difficulties over the bank holiday weekend, please contact your bank or building society.

We have been told that banks and building societies will treat each case on its merits, but in situations like these are usually sympathetic and understanding of customers’ circumstances.
