Essex residents who would like to repair and revamp their old clothes are invited to attend a series of free one day courses taking place during February and March.
The basic sewing skills courses have been organised by Essex County Council, to encourage more residents to reuse their unwanted household items instead of throwing them away.
Courses are taking place at Adult Community Learning centres in Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford, Colchester, Epping, Harlow, Maldon and Rochford. For further details and to book a place visit www.recycleforessex.co.uk
(click on events and training), email firstname.lastname@example.org
or call 0845 603 7625.
Those who attend the courses will learn valuable skills such as repairing hems, collars and pockets, and replacing buttons. Practical advice and feedback will be offered by the course tutor.
County Councillor Kevin Bentley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Waste & Recycling, said: “These free courses will be ideal for anyone who wants to learn to learn some basic sewing skills, so they can repair their clothes rather than throwing them away. We all need to think about reusing as much as we can, as it prevents items from going to landfill and helps us to save money.”
