London 2012

13 September 2010

Essex has been awarded Host County Status for the London 2012 Games by the London Organising Committee of the Paralympic and Olympic Games (LOCOG) in recognition of it hosting the Olympic Mountain Bike Events.

The events will take place against the stunning backdrop of the Thames estuary at Salvation Army owned Hadleigh Farm on 12 and 13 August 2012, in the Castle Point borough of Essex in the south of the county.

Essex County Council is working with partners including the Salvation Army, Castle Point Borough Council and LOCOG to deliver the world class Mountain Biking facility. Proud to be hosting an Olympic event at the London 2012 Games, Essex County Council is determined this once in a lifetime opportunity leaves a lasting legacy for the residents of Essex.

The 2012 Legacy & Strategic Sport team is working to ensure that Essex residents have the opportunity to get involved and be inspired by the London 2012 Games. The team is delivering a range of programmes in sport, volunteering, learning and development and culture to encourage local people to try something new or develop an existing passion.

Regularly updated information on the Olympic Mountain Bike Events and other London 2012 Games inspired activities being delivered across the county can be found on the Essex Legacy website
